Myles is 1 1/2 years old and I have never once made the attempt to try to reach out to other moms in my area for friendship. He goes to daycare, and I have a couple close friends and family who love to spend time with him, but outside of my small circle, I never tried to make it bigger.
I'm a part of a couple different mom groups on Facebook that are local to me. One day, one of the moms in the group posted about this facility that organizes groups and events, specifically targeting parents and their child(ren). The post that I happened to see was a post made in one of the groups I'm in, asking about activities they can do that their child(ren) could participate in. Now, I see these posts all the time so I don't usually interact with them, but the comments on this post showcased a lot of moms with kids around Myles' age group! That's when I went to investigate the facility they were talking about, and browsing all of the different activities they had organized, or plan to organize.
The Buggy Bunch is an organization that's located in Vero Beach, Florida. They are very passionate about the well-beings of the community's families and are also always holding events that bring the community together. Their main focus is typically moms and their babies and/or kids, and making sure they're thriving!
The event that I ended up going to was called Playtime in the Learning Loft. It's a small building located in Downtown Vero Beach, and they had an area within the building that was specifically designed as a play area for children. Included in the play area was: a kitchen area, with a lot of toy foods and kitchenettes, even a small picnic table; a few of those plastic toy cars that toddlers can ride around in; a Lego wall with multiple baskets of Legos to play with; a study area in the corner of the play area that had a desk, chairs, and even a Nugget couch; and they also had a giant, wooden structure that had a slide, ladder, and a bridge.
At first, I was very hesitant on being involved in any community activities, especially with COVID-19 still lingering around. However, I took the chance and RSVP'd for the Playtime in the Learning Loft. Myles had so much fun! His favorite part of the whole experience was driving around in the little buggies. I interacted with a couple of the other moms, but we were all so entranced by our own little ones that we didn't really have time for conversation amongst each other.
This event is held every Monday and Thursday, and while I probably won't attend EVERY playtime session, there is a good chance I'll return at least once a month, if only to see the look on Myles' face when he plays in the play area with the other children.
